• Procedure versatility – self-etch, selective-enamel-etch, or total-etch. 3M ESPE recommends the self-etch procedure when:
• The risk of tooth sensitivity or proximity to pulp exists
• The situation calls for bonding to dentine (rather than to enamel)
• The risk of moisture contamination exists
• Cementation needs to happen quickly
• 3M ESPE recommends selective or total-etch when:
• The situation calls for bonding to enamel (rather than to dentine)
• Preparation is non-retentive
• No risk of post-op sensitivity exists (e.g. non-vital tooth)
• The situation is easy to keep dry
